You would think that the same old traps wouldn’t work anymore. You’d think that we might have learned something from the last time we ran into trouble.
Unlike the infamous Nigerian prince phishing email asking you wire money to help them out of jam, the traps we stumble into in our own lives might be more subtle. Like it, though, we continue to fall for the old tricks, even though we know that there really isn’t a prince at the end of the line.
Fool me once, bad on you, fool me twice bad on me.
It might have been better to just ignore the temptation and move on.
Work, life, community, family – the stories we send to ourselves also may need to be ignored if we’re going to get past where we’re at.
Hoping for the pot of gold at the end of your personal email chain? You might want to think twice before you send that check. The message you’re hearing (seeing, experiencing) may just be a trap.
Don’t hesitate. Hit the delete button. Send that idea to the recycle bin. You can ignore the things that aren’t working for you (really, you can).
Fortunately, we’re good story tellers. We can change the narrative/draft a new ending/set up a new premise.
The results won’t change unless you do something different.
Send yourself some new stories. Don’t fall for the same old traps and tricks.
